Coffee from the continental breakfast,
as they opened their doors at 5 am.
Another sunrise, so beautiful, so tropical,
so very Gilligan’s Isle.
The ATV ride through the jungle was really great. We went along the beach, over fossilized conch shells, and then back into the jungle. Our guide was “Sixtoe”
at least that’s how it is pronounced. We drove by the highway for a while. It is an odd two-lane highway with each direction
having a half-width lane to allow passing. We got up to 61kms per hour on those things and splashed each other with glee.
We went to a lane and entered the jungle again. How beautiful.
I really wanted to see a monkey. I kept looking in the trees
and saw dark bulges near the trunks, but those were termite nests. Once we had entered this jungle road we were surrounded
by greens and greys. We came upon a building that sold Mayan goods and some people purchased gifts. There was a monkey. It
was on a leash but seemed quite happy playing in the trees and on the rope.
Then a baby monkey was handed to me. It cuddled with me. Absolutely adorable.
I got to snuggle a baby monkey! Who doesn't want to do that?
Then we hiked to the
water. Walking through the jungle is just so amazing to do. There are different birdcalls and forest sounds out there. We
go to a rock wall and there underneath it, is this beautiful water. It looks to be about 3 or 4 feet deep. Strip down to bathing
suits and climb in. It is about 15 to 20 feet deep and goes way under the rocks into caves I wish I could explore.
The sunlight coming in from the side, makes it look like an aquarium. There were rocks and fish and it was just beautiful.
Snorkelling without fins is an odd feeling. I found it odd as well, to be able
to descend but not breathe. The snorkel feels like a regulator. Snorkelling in and around stalactites and stalagmites was
wild.
